A molecular study based on COI, 16S and 28S genes reveals that a batch of specimens (7 males and 4 females) of Dysphaea Selys, 1853 collected from central Vietnam, which include different color patterns of wings and body, and were originally identified as three different species, are all the same species. This study implies that, in some group of Odonata, identification only depending on color pattern may be unreliable, no matter what huge variations there are.

The melon thrips, Thrips palmi Karny, is an economically important pest on many vegetables from Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae. In this study, we developed novel microsatellite markers for Thrips palmi. First, we obtained randomly sequenced regions from the genome using next-generation sequencing and assembled 356 Mb genomic sequences. In total, 155,789 microsatellites were identified from the genomic sequences, of which, 64.02% were loci of dinucleotide repeat. Sixty primer pairs were initially validated in seven individuals. Thirty-five polymorphic markers were retained according to the amplification efficiency and polymorphism. These 35 microsatellite loci were then assessed in 96 individuals in four geographical populations collected from China. The allele numbers ranged from 2 to 19 with an average value of 6.9 per locus, while the polymorphism information content ranged from 0.2219 to 0.8490. The observed and expected heterozygosity varied from 0.5252 to 0.5367 and 0.5934 to 0.6148, respectively. Genetic structure was found between populations from southern and northern China. These novel microsatellite markers developed in our study provide abundant molecular markers for the genetic study of T. palmi.

Blaptica dubia (Serville, 1838) and B. interior Hebard, 1921 were considered to be cryptic species. The characteristics originally proposed for their identification are not reliable. Thus the relationship between the two species should be re-considered. As a comparative approach and to analyze intraspecific variability, morphological and morphometric methods were performed. Traditional and new characters such as wing shape and pronotum contour were utilized. We found significant differences between both species (p <0.05) in the shape of the wing, but there was an overlap of values. We did not find differences in the body measurements or in the shape and size of the pronotum between the species. The variability gradient does not allow an accurate identification of species neither with the male genitalia or the pronotal macula. Based on the obtained results, B. interior Hebard 1921 is considered to be a junior synonym of B. dubia (Serville, 1838).

A new species, Hemithyrsocera hemiptera sp. nov., is described from Southwest China, based on its shortened tegmina, and the lack of hind wings, including the illustrations of its habitus and male genitalia. A key to the Chinese species of the genus is provided. The type material is deposited in Shanghai Entomological Museum (SEM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Three species of the myrmicine ant genus Dilobocondyla are recognized in China: D. gaoyureni, D. fouqueti and D. rufida sp. nov. The new species is described based on the worker and the gyne castes, and can be distinguished from the others by the relatively shorter petiole and the obvious bicolored body. A revised key to the known species of the world based on worker caste is presented.

One new species of the genus Brithura Edwards, 1916, B. triprocessa Men & Liu sp. nov. from China is described and illustrated. The morphological description of the internal reproductive system for both sexes of the new species is provided, which represents the first concern of the internal reproductive system in this genus.
