Due to their characteristics, such as powerful regeneration capability, high susceptibility to xenobiotics, wide distribution and weak dispersion ability, planarians are used as ideal test animals in several research fields, and planarianology has become a more and more active subject. This paper reviews the research progress of planarians from the aspects of molecular phylogeny, molecular taxonomy, population genetics and phylogeography, and also summarizes the corresponding molecular markers applied. Moreover, the future direction and tendency in this field is briefly analyzed and prospected.

Samples of leptomedusan were collected from the Taiwan Strait during July 2006. Two new species, Gangliostoma abaxialispura Xu, Huang & Guo, sp. nov. and Eutima taiwanensis Xu, Huang & Guo, sp. nov., are described and illustrated. The keys to the species of Gangliostoma and Eutima are presented, respectively. The type specimens are deposited in the Third Institute of Oceanography, China.

The study reviews all medusa genera and species belonging to the families Bougainvilliidae, Eucodoniidae, Proboscidactylidae, Corymorphidae and Sugiuridae from the northern South China Sea. A new genus Xu, Guo & Wang, gen. nov. is erected under the family Sugiuridae, based on the monotype, Monocanna ovale (Mayer, 1900) comb. nov. from Gastroblasta. Four new species, Nubiella terminaliknoba Xu, Guo & Wang sp. nov., Paranubiella shenzhenensis Xu, Huang & Wang, sp. nov., Eucodonium crassonemalis Xu, Guo & Lin, sp. nov. and Proboscidactyla trifurcata Xu, Huang & Guo, sp. nov., are described and illustrated here. The species Euphysora knides Huang, 1999 stat. rev. is revised to be a valid species. The keys to known genera of families Corymorphidae, Sugiuridae and species of genera Paranubiella, Eucodonium, Proboscidactyla are provided. All type specimens are deposited in the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University.

The genus Tylostega Meyrick, 1894 from China is studied here. Two new species are described: T. longicornuta sp. nov. and T. vittiformis sp. nov.; the female of T. serrata Du & Li, 2008 is reported for the first time. A key to Tylostega species in China and a checklist of all the known species in the world are given. Photographs of adults and genitalia of the new species are provided.

Twenty-one species of the genus Eoophyla Swinhoe, 1900 are recognized from China, of which 7 species are described as new to science, namely E. tenuisa sp. nov., E. minisigna sp. nov., E. fusca sp. nov., E. clarusa sp. nov., E. leiokellula sp. nov., E. minita sp. nov. and E. ciliensis sp. nov. Two species, E. peribocalis and E. sejunctalis, are not recorded in this paper as their record were doubted. All adults and their genital structures examined are illustrated. A key to the Chinese species is provided. All type materials are deposited in IZCAS.

A new species of Celidodacus Hendel, C. parafenestratus Chen & Freidberg, sp. nov. from Democratic Republic of Congo, is described and illustrated. Redescriptions and illustrations of C. coloniarum and C. obnubilus are provided, of which C. coloniarum is first recorded from Kenya. A key to all species of the genus is revised.
