Gyrodactylus konovalovi is an ectoparasite on the Amur minnow (Rhynchocypris lagowskii) that is widely distributed in the cold fresh waters of East Asia. In the present study, the phylogeography of G. konovalovi and the distribution of its host in the Qinling Mountains are examined. A total of 102 parasite specimens was sequenced for the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene, and 43 haplotypes were obtained. The ratio of substitution sites (dN/dS) was 0.016 and indicated strongly purifying selection. Haplotype diversity (h) and nucleotide diversity (π) of suprapopulations of G. konovalovi varied widely between distinct localities from the Qinling Mountains. Phylogenetic trees based on Bayesian inference (BI), maximum likelihood (ML) and maximum parsimony (MP) methods and network analysis revealed that all haplotypes were consistently well-supported in three different lineages A, B, and C, indicating a significant geographic distribution pattern. There was a significant positive correlation between genetic differentiation (Fst) and geographic distance (P < 0.001). The results of mismatch distribution, neutrality test and Bayesian skyline plot analyses showed that lineages A and B underwent population expansion after the Last Glacier Maximum (LGM) during the Late Pleistocene, while the lineage C underwent population contraction during the Middle to Late Pleistocene. Based on the molecular clock calibration, the most common ancestor was estimated to have emerged in the Middle to Late Pleistocene. Our study suggests that a clearly phylogeography of G. konovalovi was shaped by climatic oscillation and geological events, such as orogenesis, drainage capture changes and vicariance, during the Pleistocene in the Qinling Mountains in central China.

A new species, Physaloptera apodemi sp. nov., was collected from Apodemus sylvaticus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Rodentia: Muridae) from the National Baxianshan Nature Reserve, Tianjin, China. The new species differs from the congeners by having 22 caudal papillae, the number and arrangement of caudal papillae, either the left or the right spicule with striated sheaths at their proximal end, the vulva located in the anterior fifth of body, and the egg size. A key to the species of Physaloptera from rodents is also given.

Two new spider families from Late Cretaceous Kachin amber (Myanmar), ?Pilosarachnidae Jiang & Li, fam. nov. and ?Gigarachnidae Jiang & Li, fam. nov., are described: Pilosarachne ju Jiang & Li, gen. & sp. nov. and Gigarachne bian Jiang & Li, gen. & sp. nov. Type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing (IZCAS). Both families bear three tarsal claws and are most likely entelegyne. Diagnostic characters of extinct families in Kachin amber with uncertain relationships with extant fauna are listed and discussed.

The tribe Neoneurini Bengtsson, 1918 (Braconidae, Euphorinae) from China is reviewed. The genus Sinoneoneurus He, Chen & van Achterberg, 1997 is synonymized with Elasmosoma Ruthe, 1858, and two species, Elasmosoma (Sinoneoneurus) obscuripennis (He, Chen & van Achterberg, 1997) and E. (S.) pallidipennis (He, Chen & van Achterberg, 1997) are new combinations. The genus Neoneurus Haliday, 1838 and two species, Neoneurus clypeatus (Foerster, 1863) and Elasmosoma pergandei Ashmead, 1895, are recorded from China for the first time. A key to the five species of Neoneurini from China is provided.

Solitudes dushengi gen. & sp. nov. is described from Xinjiang, China. This species is tentatively assignted to the Gnaphosidae Pocock, 1898, and a new subfamily is described, namely Solitudinae subfam. nov. A full morphological description of the female, with epigyne illustrations are given for the new species. The type specimen is deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing (IZCAS).
