Phylogenomic approaches are growingly applied in the systematic studies of animals with the rapid advancement of sequencing and analytical tools. Aiming to accelerate the systematic studies using genome-scale data in China, this paper outlines the commonly used techniques for generating phylogenomic datasets: RNA-seq based transcriptome, target-enrichment based UCEs and AHE, RAD-seq, whole genome sequencing, and briefly discusses the pros and cons of each technique. Major analytical procedures for the 1KITE transcriptome pipeline, the PHYLUCE (UCEs) and AHE pipelines and the PLWS (low-coverage whole genome sequencing) pipeline are summarized, and recent achievements valuable for phylogenomic analyses are introduced.

Three new Chorizopes species are diagnosed and described based on specimens collected in China, namely C. jianfengensis sp. nov. (♂♀), C. liae sp. nov. (♂♀) and C. yinae sp. nov. (♂♀). Distributional data, detailed morphological characteristics, and illustrations of habitus and genital organs are provided.

Checklist of all known species of the bark beetle genus Cryphalus Erichson, 1836 is assembled, based on literatures published prior to May 2020. A total of 253 species including 36 species distributed in China is arranged. Distributions of each species and complete account are provided.

The taxonomy of Chinese bees of the genus Icteranthidium Michener, 1948 is revised here, including five species. Species information are modified in detail, such as incorrect publication date, misspelling, misidentification and their synonymic relationships. Flower association and general distribution of each species are also provided. Illustrations for these species, of which specimens deposited in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, are presented. A key to all Chinese known species of Icteranthidium is provided.

Iridomyrmex Mayr is Australia’s most ecologically dominant ant genus and has been estimated to contain at least 350 species. However, a recent taxonomic revision of the genus recognized only 79 species. Such contrasting views have major implications for an understanding of not only the diversity of such an important genus, but also its biogeography and evolutionary history. The taxonomic revision considered I. anceps (Roger) to represent a single species, despite its marked morphological variation and range from Australia to India and China. Subsequently, a preliminary morphological analysis recognized six species within the complex. Here we describe results from an integrated morphological, CO1 and distributional analysis that assesses if the six morphologically based taxa are differentiated genetically, and if there are additional species in the complex that are yet to be recognized. We found the morphological differentiation within the complex to be matched by extensive genetic divergence, and that matched morphological and genetic differentiation frequently occurs in sympatry. We recognize up to 18 species among our sequenced specimens from the complex, with their centre of diversity occurring in Queensland. Our findings are consistent with results showing that other Iridomyrmex species recognized in the taxonomic revision represent several to many actual species. The recognition of only 79 species of Iridomyrmex does not reflect true diversity within this ecologically dominant genus, nor the complexity of its biogeography and evolutionary history.

Parasitic wasps reared from larvae of Stenocephus fraxini on Fraxinus chinnensis from Shandong Province, China were found to be two new species of Pteromalidae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea). The characters of marginal vein, antenna, and propodeum show that the new species is close to the members of Cyrtoptyx, but hairs on thorax are white and conspicuous, the dorsellum is relatively large and reticulated, and marginal fringe on fore wing are absent. All characters are sufficient to justify the erection of a new genus, Neocyrtoptyx gen. nov., to accommodate the new species N. shanghensis sp. nov. and N. exilis sp. nov.

A new species of Brachypremna Osten-Sacken, 1887 from Dominican amber is described and illustrated, namely B. chenhuameii sp. nov.. The new species is most similar to another fossil species documented in Dominican amber, B. brodzinskii Krzemiński, 1996, by the wing pattern, but is separated from the latter by the absence of final part of Sc, the arcuate origin of Rs, and the length of petiole of cell m1, which is distinctly longer than the cross vein m-m. A key to all fossil species of the genus Brachypremna is provided.
